Kakashi's Mantras
Hey-Diddle-Diddle

-Mantras-

He loves me, he loves me, he loves me.

He’s strong, he’ll be alright. He’s strong, he’ll be alright.

He’ll come back, he always comes back. He’ll come back, he always comes back.

Kakashi has mantras he chants, like a rosary, in his head. They’re always there, unbidden, echoing in his head. Ten ‘he’s strong’ and two ‘he’ll come back.’ Rinse, repeat. Fall to your knees and pray. Whatever you do, don’t stop praying. Don’t stop chanting. Don’t let him down.

He’s strong, he’ll be alright. He’ll come back, he always comes back.

He’s gained two new mantras today. ‘She’s lying’ and ‘he’ll never leave me.’ He whispers them, in his head, along with the other mantras. They mingle and mix and grow, to a crescendo that makes him feel safe, makes him believe.

He loves me, he’ll come back, he’s strong.

She’s lying, he’ll never leave me.

He’s all right, he loves me.

He promised…

If he listens hard enough, he can’t hear her.

He loves me, he loves me, he loves me.

“Kakashi, I’m sorry-”

He’ll come back, he always comes back. He’s strong, he’ll be alright.

“-but there’s nothing I can do.”

She’s lying, she’s lying, she’s lying…

“You’re lying!”

“Kakashi!”

“He’ll never leave me, never. Never never never never-”

never never never never

never…
