July 20, 2002: Danika
Cheerful Danika

Danika's turn to get the spotlight. (*grin*) She was originally supposed to be just a minor char in S&S, probably a one-storyline appearance, but I think she might hang around a bit longer. (*laughs*) She's an extremely chirpy and cheery Amazon mercenary, and I suppose one has to wonder how she can keep that effervescent mood all the time, especially considering her line of work. Well, she just does!

If an episode in a mission gets downright serious, she can turn briefly sober, of course, but on the whole she just dives into everything with that big grin, dragging everyone else into it like it was all some roller-coaster adventure. Hey, actually, it is! (*grin*) I don't think she drags people along because of recklessness, it's more because she has a very healthy dose of self-confidence. She's pretty sure of herself to keep everything safe and the mission successful. You're only reckless if you don't care, and Dani knows she can do her stuff, so she's not reckless.

I don't like her hair like that, but I'm deliberately keeping it that way. S&S is an experiment, you see, in case I haven't mentioned that before. I'm using aspects that I normally can't stand in my chars, and inserting them into S&S anyway. Just to see if I can keep up with it, and make me not mind those aspects so much. Like, Train's deadpan features. I like my chars to be very physically expressive, and it's a challenge to convey a punchline without having anybody wave their arms or have wide eyes!

In Dani's case, she has lots of aspects I'm not fond of. The hair, for one thing. And her sheer height and lankyness, for another. I have to keep reminding myself not to give her curvy hips, and it drives me nuts. (*grin*)

But I think the experiment is working, because now I'm not minding these aspects so much, and it does me more flexible and experimental, after all. Wouldn't do to always make my chars be the same, right? Although sometimes I will concede to my inner gut and incorporate a few "things I like" into the chars, just so I don't get totally turned off. :)

Dani examining somethingTattoo on Dani's left hip

The tattoo on Dani's left hip, BTW, is there 'cause I figured she should have a tattoo, but not in a place where anyone can see. Since I don't intend on baring anyone's hip anytime soon in S&S, this should keep me safe. (*laugh*) Besides, I know what the tattoo means and where it comes from. My own private joke, you could say. Do you know? (*wink-grin*)
