Clear as Day
Hey-Diddle-Diddle

Iruka could see Kakashi's face, clear as day. The mask was a light blue, stretchy fabric, and it clung to Kakashi's features. And now, with Iruka so very, very close, he could see the shape of a chin, thin and almost pointy, of cheek bones, high, and of a mouth, slightly open. He could feel breath from behind the mask brushing across his nose and he lifted his face a bit more, so the breath touched his lips.

"How was your mission, Kakashi-san?" he asked politely, moving his gaze from the lower half of the face to that one eye.

"Good," Kakashi said, an small explosion of air touching Iruka's lips.

Iruka touched the tip of his tongue to the center of his top lip thoughtfully, looking over the mission report in front of him, and Kakashi leaned closer until their forehead protectors clinked together.

"Is something wrong, Sensei?" he asked softly, and Iruka had to repress a shudder.

"Nothing, nothing."

"Are you sure?" He sounded as though he was about to laugh. Iruka found himself again focusing on the mask, on the way it moved and pulledd, stretching over Kakashi's nose and mouth, the mouth that was open in a smile. He tore his gaze away from the face to look around the mission room, half agitated and half elated that it was empty, save for him and Kakashi. He leaned from his chair, pressing his lips against Kakashi's mask in a quick peck, then sat down again, looking over the mission report once more.

"Nothing," he repeated. Check, check, sign, stamp. When Kakashi left the room, Iruka could just see a smile underneath that stretchy blue mask.
