Tea
Hey-Diddle-Diddle

Twice a year, Rin and Kakashi meet. They meet on Obito's death, and their sensei's, and when they do, they drink a cup of tea together. They don't say much, really, but they don't need to. Rin grew up, grew tired of chasing after a boy that would never chase her back. Now she stays in the hospital, tending to ninja that get home a little the worse for wear. Kakashi won't ever say it, but he's glad she's there, away from the missions that would have killed her.

Sometimes, when Rin looks at her list of patients, she'll see Kakashi's name. On those days, she signs out early and goes home, claiming to be sick. Kakashi knows, but he doesn't say anything. Who needs to? They're not close, haven't been close since they were nineteen, and Rin kissed Kakashi.

The kiss had been, to say the least, unexpected. Kakashi had pulled away, yanking his mask back up, and Rin had looked away, not blushing, because she never blushed around him anymore.

"Don't love you," she muttered, and Kakashi slouched. "Stopped loving you, and I just- Doesn't work, you know, Kakashi-kun?"

"Didn't mean to hurt you," Kakashi lied, and Rin didn't call him on it.

Now, it's Obito's death-day, and Rin's pouring Kakashi a cup of tea. Kakashi takes it, holds it delicately between his fingers, and Rin pours her own tea.

"How have you been?" she asks. Kakashi shrugs and she sets down the teapot.

"Fine," he lies, and Rin doesn't call him on it.

"Good," she says. "I don't love you," she lies.

Kakashi doesn't call her on it.
